Bernard Wilson - Permer Bernard Payne - Clue#9

 

Today, was a wonderful day. I visited the Dallas National Cemetery to locate the gave of Bernard Wilson - Permer Bernard Payne. I mentioned before that it was absolutely beautiful. I did locate his grave and the most exciting part of it all was there was a Christmas reef at nearly all of the of the gravesites/headstones. A Merry Christmas to all of those that served our country, a true Blessing.

I also received a response from Marshall, Texas Public Library, and it was some of the same information that I already had. Though, I truly enjoyed the trip to Dallas, Texas, I do think that he internet rather than the library will be the next best thing for family tree research.

 

 

 

Bernard Wilson - Permer Bernard Payne - Clue#8

I was rummaging through my things and guess what I found. A newspaper obituary. Oh what information you can gather from obituaries, though they are much like death certificate, the informant gives just what they know about the person. It is not always an informant is close. Yes, he married Dorothy Robinson (Payne) in 1991, but using the name Permer Bernard Payne.

 

So here's the deal, He was born Bernard Wilson, according to ancestry.com, he entered in as Permer B. Payne.

 

 

The previous entry for his search states that I forwarded letters to Marshall, Texas Public Schools for any school record that they may have and the National Archive Center for Census that may give more clues about when and why he changed his name.

 

 

As you read on the obituary he worked for "Spinks Aircraft". So, I looked "Spinks Aircraft" up and found that it opened in 1988 and it is a general aviation reliever airport for the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex...so on and so forth. I wrote them a letter to see if they would release any information about him.

I was adopted as a child, so I am unaware of any other family members. I slightly remember him, because when he was married to Irma Simpson they both cared for me until he left the home. Ellen Evans Payne/Pain - Clue#1

I mentioned earlier on that I sent an email to fc@nagov in regards to Ellen Evans Payne/Pain, my Great Grandmother of Marshall, Texas. I am trying to confirm her parents that she mentioned I the 'slave narrative' and her birthdate. Well, the email was 'undeliverable' so I wrote a letter to the:

She mentioned in the slave narrative I reviewed on line that her parents were Isom and Becky Lewis. I am searching for records to show where and why Bernard Wilson changed his name to Permer Bernard Payne. I wrote the Marshall, Texas School District (Archive Center) in hopes that he had some acquired school records. This will maybe give me another clue.

My name is Jacqueline of Fort Worth, Texas. I am currently researching my family history. I am requesting information about Bernard Wilson. I do know that lived in Marshall, Texas on the 1940 Census with my Great Grandmother Maggie Womack Payne on Star Street at the age of 7 years. I am not exactly sure how he is related. It is my understanding that he was my biological Mother’s brother.

He was born Bernard Wilson, but later changed his name to Permer Bernard Payne. Again, I am trying to see if he had any school records there in Marshall, Texas for any year. According to the 1940 Census, he was not in school at age 7 years.

David Payne/Pain - Clue#4

 

I searched and searched for my Grandfather's death certificate. I had to tweak a lot of things to find it. I ended putting in the Father's name and city and it displayed all of Nelson Payne's children. The only thing I am not understanding is that is says he is married to "Georgia". I suppose he had separated from my Grandmother "Maggie Womack Payne" by then (she died in 1969). They had two children, and according to the Census "Aunt Virgie" was born about 1905 which would have made her 29 years of age and my Grandmother, Myrtle (Madea', as we all called her) born about 1915 which would have made her 19 years of age. His death certificate has "Port Caddo Road", he either lived with his mother (Ellen Evans Payne) or on the same street.

Okay!

 

I received a letter from the Department of Veteran Affairs Dallas -Fort Worth National Cemetery and the only information available was the location of his gravesite. I thought it was pretty cool that they sent the link to view the location of his gravesite. I attached the links of all military branches to my page tabs. Anywhoo, It is a step closer. I love it!

 

I definitely have to make plans to visit.  I would love to have pictures for my family tree scrapbook.

Once I open the link I learned that you can send request to the Branch in which the person you are researching served. I wrote a request to the Army in hopes of getting more information about "Permer". As I mentioned I just have to continue researching his un-given name for now.

Bernard Wilson - Permer Bernard Payne - Clue#3

In search of Permer Bernard Payne/Bernard Wilson - I post the search for him, I just decided to write the National Cemetery where he was buried. Perhaps the can give me a clearer lead, though he was registered as "Permer Bernard Payne". I can only learn more about the un-given name from the National Cemetery. Perhaps some unknown children will be listed, a picture,  military entry/exit date, et cetera. (crossing my fingers)

I am also trying to figure out why and how he changed his birth name "Bernard Wilson".

Getting Around the Missing 1890 Census...

Bernard Wilson - Permer Bernard Payne

 

 

Born 'Bernard Wilson' died 'Permer Bernard Payne'. I have searched up and down for my uncle's (?) history. I am not sure when and why his name changed. I wrote the military and unfortunately, he enrolled as 'Permer Bernard Payne'. This is a piece of out family tree that is currently unsolved. My last resource was to write the Washington D.C. National Archive and Records Administration.

 

The sad part of research is that the census was done every ten years. A lot could change in ten years. 'Wilson' could be his Father's last name or he could have grown up as a brother to the household children. Payne was my paternal Grandfather's name (David Payne).
