I mentioned early on that next to being adopted, I had a son that was born with a rare type of diabetes which sparked my interest in doing my family tree. I was one of the fortunate ones, that was not ever separated from my biological family which made the search a little easier. I was asked, so I thought it would be respectful of me to answer. I guess the most exciting part of it all was that I was ask to do something to this affect a few times. God is good!! Of course, things don't come when we want them too, but they do come right on time,
This Blogspot is NOT to duplicate or copyright any information. My thought was to simply compile a lot of the family tree search information and present it in one place. When I begin my search, it was like working on a job as one person but doing the job of many people. Seemed the information and resources were not as readily available as I thought they would be. Imagine sitting down for a test and you have not ever studied anything on the test, scary right? Like I said before, research for African Americans has a lot of pitfalls and disappointments. Though it will not remedy the trial and error, I hope that it will save you some footsteps and ease the beginning research which for me was the hardest part of it all. Keep in mind that finding repeated last names could be that they are double related as I found in my family tree search or that it is coincident (perhaps they were married into the family).
Good Luck in your search!!! Check out the link to the right of you and begin your search. I also have a book available on Amazon (for beginners research only) called the "The Black Tree", by Jackie Thomas.
